Being an altar server is open to those in third grade or older. A server’s primary tasks involve assisting the priest throughout the Mass by holding books, candles, carrying the processional cross, and preparing the altar before the celebration of the Eucharist.
The Art and Environment Team is responsible for creating liturgical environments that reflect the various seasons of the liturgical calendar throughout the year. Team members help with hanging banners, arranging plants and flowers, and placing other elements of décor to provide an environment which is appropriate to the church seasons.
Eucharistic Ministers help with the distribution of Holy Communion at Masses. They may also take Holy Communion to shut-ins.
Gift bearers present the wine, hosts and offerings to the priest for consecration during a Mass. The honor of being a gift bearer requires no special skill or permanent ministerial duty, yet, is a beautiful and significant part of the Mass performed by lay people.
Members of the parish who greet those attending weekend Masses and attend to the details that contribute to the orderliness of our liturgies. Greeters must arrive 30 minutes before the service.
Lectors have a critical role in the celebration of the Mass. Since the Lector proclaims not just any word, but the Word of God, it is essential that they develop the skills required to communicate God’s message competently.
Ushers arrive 30 minutes before the service. An Usher welcomes arriving guests, assists with seating, collects the offering, directs the orderly flow of members to the altar for communion, straightens the pews after each service, and helps in emergencies.
